Located on the shores of Lake Victoria in eastern Africa, Uganda is a country of 36 million people. 48% of the population is in the 0-14-year-old age range, 21% are 15-25 years of age, and 28% are in the 25-64 range.
Although it is a beautiful country, Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world. Sixty-nine percent of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day, and most of this limited income (63 percent) is spent on food. At least 4 million Ugandans are food insecure, and those who do have food, don't eat in a balanced manner.
There are hundreds of thousands of orphaned and impoverished children with no hope for a future due to a lack of education and resources. Poverty leads young girls to engage in sex work that exposes them to the risks of HIV, other diseases, and teenage pregnancy. Most Ugandan citizens struggle to acquire even the most basic healthcare.
Engage Hope Ministries was birthed out of a passion and calling from God to serve the people of Uganda and transform lives and communities for Christ. Initially, the work was focused in Rakai, a region that was devastated by the AIDS epidemic. Working with local pastors, Engage Hope organized short-term mission teams focused on HIV/AIDS awareness, evangelism, and discipleship training. Since those early days, God has blessed the ministry and expanded our work so that today we are reaching thousands of people for Christ through Christian education, church planting, discipleship/leadership training, medical outreach, feeding programs and more.
We currently work with ten Ministry Partners in Uganda to help provide Christian education, clean water, food, housing, malnutrition treatment, medical care, and vocational training to meet the physical and spiritual needs of impoverished children and families in their communities. We believe that meeting the physical needs of those we serve opens the door to minister to them spiritually. Every program or ministry we support – every resource God provides is used for one purpose – to earn the right to share the gospel in that community and make disciples for Jesus Christ.
